Arctic Railway, here and now
Arctic Railway, here and now. Both passenger service and cargo service operates on the century-old tracks leading all the way up to Narvik (Norway). Arctic Rail Express (ARE) is the cargo train connection from Narvik to continental Europe, bringing fresh fish and seafood to markets, and groceries back. In Narvik, a loading point exists for transport in the region further north. ARE has provided a surplus, and should form the basis for an upgrading and ideed development of tracks to other cities in the north, like Tromsø, reducing trailer traffic and climate gas emissions. But most importantly; it will make the export-dependent north Norwegian economy less dependent on fossile fuels in a future where fuel prises are likely to rise as the EU implements its climate goals.
But feel inspired to use the Arctic Railway, here and now. It's a great journey, and as far north as you can get by rail in Europe. After Riksgransen the descent into Narvik begins, the train descending some 500m in 40 kms. This part of the journey is truly spectacular, as the prospect of the Rombaks Fiord opens up and everything starts to get greener. The train hugs the hillside as it descends offering unparalleled views over the mountains to the north. And so to Narvik, an immensely likeable town in which to spend a few days. And reached by what is, truly, one of the great railway journeys of the world.
北極鉄道、現時点を使用するようにしかし感じは促した。 それはヨーロッパの柵を何とかやることができるように大きい旅行、ので遠い北であり。
